Fast, Friendly Service in Toronto
Our Toronto office is minutes from Riverdale, Leslieville, the Danforth, Leaside and the Beaches, and our Toronto team has been in the city’s basements for over forty years, first as Hoerner Heating & Plumbing and since 2024 as part of Dr HVAC. Most calls get a licensed technician to your door in four hours or less.
Toronto summers are humid and the houses east of Yonge were never built for central air. Condensers squeezed into side yards, line sets run up the outside wall, and ductwork that was sized for heat, not cooling. We service those setups every week.
Best of all, we provide a 100% satisfaction guarantee on our work. We promise the work will be done correctly, or we will fix it for free.
I called Dr HVAC for an emergency repair on my air conditioning in the middle of Toronto’s first heat wave of the year. My air conditioning was leaking water directly into my furnace and pooling on the ground. They sent a technician within a couple hours who immediately was able to determine the cause and solution of the problem.

Cooling Toronto’s Older Homes
A lot of the houses we cool in Toronto were built before central air existed. The ductwork was designed to carry warm air up from a basement furnace, which is the wrong direction for cooling, so the top floor runs hot while the basement is freezing. We can often fix that with airflow adjustments before anyone talks about new equipment.
The other pattern is the aging outdoor unit. Condensers from the R-22 era are still running in a lot of Toronto side yards. Refrigerant for them is expensive and hard to get, so a leak on one of those units usually starts a repair-or-replace conversation, and we will be honest about which way the numbers point.
Capacitors, contactors, fan motors and refrigerant leaks are the bulk of what we fix. Our trucks carry the common parts, so a same-day diagnosis is usually a same-day repair.
Worth knowing before you call:
In Ontario only a technician holding an Ozone Depletion Prevention certificate may handle refrigerant. A company that tops up your system every spring without finding the leak is breaking that rule and selling you the same repair twice. Ask us to find the leak first. Source: Government of Ontario.
Toronto Public Health calls a Heat Warning when the forecast shows two or more days at 31 degrees or hotter with overnight lows of 20, or a humidex of 40. Those are the days every AC company in the city is booked by noon. Get the tune-up done in May, and if the unit quits on a warning day, call early. Source: City of Toronto.
What the diagnostic visit covers:
- Thermostat and controls
- Capacitor, contactor and fan motor
- Refrigerant pressures and a leak check
- Indoor and outdoor coils and the filter
- Condensate drain and pump
- Airflow and supply temperature split
- A written price for the repair before any work starts

Repair or ReplaceWhen should you repair or replace your air conditioner?
Most air conditioners last 10 to 15 years. A capacitor or a contactor on a young unit is a repair. A compressor on a 14-year-old unit is a conversation.
We show you what we found and give you both numbers. It is your home, so the call is yours.
If it is a replacement, monthly financing is available. See the financing options.

Frequently Asked Questions
It might be as simple as a thermostat setting, blocked vents, a dirty filter or debris on the outdoor unit. If none of those fix it, the usual causes are a failed capacitor, low refrigerant from a leak or a frozen coil. A technician can tell you which in one visit.
Often, yes. A capacitor replacement is the single most common air conditioner repair on our books and it is done in one visit with a part from the truck. We test it before we replace it, so you are not paying for a guess.
We quote the diagnostic fee when you book and credit it toward the repair when you go ahead with us. You will know the repair price before any work starts.
Yes. We service ductless systems from every major brand, including the ones that ice over or blow warm on the hottest days, which is usually a refrigerant or drainage issue rather than a dead unit.
If the fault is electrical, a small repair can buy another season. If it is a refrigerant leak, the answer is usually no. Canada cut HCFC refrigerants like R-22 by 99.5% by 2020 and phases them out completely by 2030, so recharging a leaking system often costs more than the unit is worth. Any replacement has to meet SEER2 13.4 under Canada’s Energy Efficiency Regulations, and most of what we install is well above it. We will show you both numbers. Ten to fifteen years is typical, and yearly maintenance is what gets you to the top of that range. Units that skip tune-ups tend to fail early on the parts a tune-up would have caught.
